Liam Gallagher, once the dynamic frontman of Oasis, and John Squire, legendary guitarist of The Stone Roses, have crowned the music charts with their latest collaborative album. On Friday 8 March 2024, it was announced that their joint venture had clinched the number one spot in the UK.
Gallagher’s career boasts a total of 14 official number one albums. This includes eight chart-toppers with Oasis and five post-Oasis albums that hit the top spot. His discography with Oasis features acclaimed albums such as “Definitely Maybe” in 1994 and “(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?” in 1995, among others. After Oasis split in 2009, Gallagher continued to enjoy success with albums like “As You Were” (2017) and “C’mon You Know” (2022). He also recorded two top five LPs with Beady Eye. Despite his achievements, Gallagher has been in a long-running feud with his brother Noel since Oasis’ breakup.
John Squire achieved his first-ever chart-topping album through this collaboration. Previously, his best effort was with The Seahorses’ “Do It Yourself,” which reached number two and stayed on the chart for 49 weeks in 1997.
On the other side, Noel Gallagher has seen success as well, with four number one albums through his project High Flying Birds. His latest LP “Council Skies” reached the number two position.
The collaborative album between Liam Gallagher and John Squire has not only secured the number one position but also outsold its closest competition by three-to-one. Remarkably, vinyl sales accounted for 45% of its total sales, leading it to dominate the Official Vinyl Albums Chart and the Official Record Store Chart.
Following this triumph, Liam Gallagher expressed his gratitude: “Thanks to everybody that went out and bought this, it means a lot!” This collaboration marks a significant milestone for both artists, combining their legendary talents into a record-breaking project.
