Cards Against Humanity, the company known for its irreverent party game, has sued SpaceX for $15 million. The lawsuit, filed Thursday in a Texas district court, accuses SpaceX of trespassing and damaging land along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The story begins in August 2017. Cards Against Humanity bought a piece of land on the border with an unusual goal: to block then-President Donald Trump’s plans for a border wall. The company raised money for this purchase through a campaign called “Cards Against Humanity Saves America,” where 150,000 people each gave $15.

Fast forward to recent times, and SpaceX has been building facilities in the area. Cards Against Humanity claims SpaceX has been using their land without permission for at least six months. They say SpaceX has been storing materials, parking cars, and even clearing vegetation on the property.

Keith Reynolds, who lives nearby, noticed something was off. He saw SpaceX clearing the land and called to complain, but got no response. So, he told someone at Cards Against Humanity about it.

The game company says their land was in great shape before SpaceX showed up. They kept it mowed and natural, with a fence and a “No Trespassing” sign. But now, they claim the land is ruined and they can’t use it anymore.

Cards Against Humanity tried to sort things out with SpaceX. A SpaceX real estate analyst called to ask about buying the property. But Cards Against Humanity wasn’t happy with how it went down.

“We’re still waiting for them to ask for permission, apologize or even acknowledge the situation,” a Cards Against Humanity spokesperson said. “We haven’t heard from them since the filing. They only contacted us to give us a 12-hour ultimatum to sell the property for a lowball price — after they dumped their s*it on it.”

The lawsuit asks for between $250,000 and $15 million. Cards Against Humanity wants to fix up the land, make up for lost value, and repair their reputation. If they win, they plan to give each of the original 150,000 contributors $100.

SpaceX hasn’t commented on the lawsuit yet. The case highlights the ongoing tension between private landowners and companies involved in border-related projects.
