The actor will star in “Anemone,” a new movie directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis.

Focus Features and Plan B announced the news on Tuesday. The film marks Ronan’s first time directing a feature-length movie. He’s already made a name for himself as a talented painter and visual artist.

Daniel and Ronan wrote the script together. The story looks at the complex relationships between fathers, sons, and brothers, and how family ties work.

The cast includes some big names alongside Daniel Day-Lewis. Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green will all appear in the film.

Peter Kujawski, the Chairman of Focus Features, shared his thoughts on the project:

“We’re really excited to work with Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film, with Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative partner. They’ve written a truly exceptional script, and we can’t wait to bring their shared vision to audiences alongside the team at Plan B.”

Daniel Day-Lewis has won three Best Actor Oscars, more than any other actor. He last appeared on screen in “Phantom Thread” in 2017, after which he announced his retirement from acting. This wasn’t his first time stepping away from the spotlight. He also took a break from 1997 to 2000.

Recently, Day-Lewis made an appearance to honor Martin Scorsese. During the event, Scorsese hinted there might be “one more” film in Day-Lewis’s future. Looks like he was right!

Throughout his career, Day-Lewis has been drawn to roles exploring father-son relationships. He’s well-known for his performances in movies like “Lincoln” and “There Will Be Blood.” In 1989, he had a breakdown during a performance of Hamlet, reportedly due to the emotional toll of seeing his character’s father’s ghost on stage.

The release date for “Anemone” hasn’t been announced yet. More details about the film are still to come.
