Eva Longoria has moved her family out of the United States. The actress now splits her time between Mexico and Spain, as she revealed in a recent interview with Marie Claire.

Longoria spent her entire adult life in the US but noticed changes that made her uncomfortable. She felt the country’s vibe was shifting even before the pandemic hit. COVID-19 then “pushed it over the edge” for her. The actress pointed to issues like homelessness and taxes as factors in her decision.

The 2016 election had a big impact on Longoria’s outlook. She said:

“I’ve never been depressed in my life.”

The result made her question the effectiveness of voting and her belief that the “best person wins” in elections.

Longoria expressed concern about the current political situation:

“If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place. The shocking part is not that he won. It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office.”

The actress recognizes her privilege in being able to leave:

“I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”

Longoria now lives between Mexico and Spain with her husband José Bastón and their 6-year-old son Santiago. Her work often takes her to Europe and South America, and she rarely visits Los Angeles these days.

Despite her concerns about the US, Longoria remains positive about her personal future. As she approaches her 50th birthday, she said:

“For me, age is just a number, but I’m excited. I refuse to believe my greatest success is behind me.”
