Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, marking the end of their whirlwind romance. The singer and actress submitted the paperwork to Los Angeles County Court on August 20, 2023, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
Lopez seems to be moving forward with a positive outlook. On Saturday, she shared a series of summer photos on social media, hinting at her current state of mind. Her caption read, “Oh, it’s been a summer,” along with quotes suggesting she’s “unbothered” and “at peace.”
The photos included a mirror selfie of Lopez in a white one-piece bathing suit, a shot of her in a brown bikini, and pictures of her twins Max and Emme, as well as their pets. Fans reacted with excitement for Lopez’s “next ERA” and offered words of encouragement and support.
The divorce filing came on the two-year anniversary of the couple’s Georgia wedding ceremony. Lopez listed April 26, 2023, as the date of separation and requested that neither party be awarded spousal support.
“Everything is unfolding in divine order,” Lopez wrote in her social media post. “She’s in bloom and unbothered, out of reach and at peace.”
The couple’s relationship has had its ups and downs over the years. They first met on the set of “Gigli” in 2002 and got engaged that same year. However, they called off their wedding in 2004. Fast forward to 2022, and the pair surprised everyone with a Las Vegas wedding ceremony.
Rumors of trouble in paradise began circulating when the couple wasn’t seen together for 47 days. Speculation intensified when Affleck didn’t attend Lopez’s luxurious “Bridgerton”-themed 55th birthday party on July 2, 2023.
Adding to the drama, People magazine reported that Affleck had been spending time with Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy, one of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s six children, since early spring. However, Affleck’s representative, Jen Allen, firmly denied these rumors.
A recent documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” shed light on the couple’s past struggles. Affleck revealed his reluctance about public scrutiny in the early 2000s, which led to their initial split.
“I had a very firm sense of boundaries initially around the press, while Jen, I don’t think, objected to it the way I did. I very much did object to it,” Affleck explained in the documentary.
As the divorce proceedings unfold, fans and the media will undoubtedly keep a close eye on both Lopez and Affleck’s next moves.
