Lisa Marie Presley’s struggle with opioid addiction will take center stage in her upcoming posthumous memoir, set to hit shelves on October 8.

Co-authored by her daughter Riley Keough, “From Here to the Great Unknown” dives into Presley’s battle with addiction, which began after she gave birth to her twins in 2008.

Presley’s journey with opioids started as casual use of prescription painkillers. She wrote, “For a couple of years it was recreational and then it wasn’t.” The situation quickly spiraled, becoming “an absolute matter of addiction, withdrawal in the big leagues.”

This wasn’t Presley’s first time opening up about her struggles. In 2019, she penned the foreword for a book on the opioid crisis, revealing how a short-term prescription after childbirth led to a need for continued use.

Presley’s story echoes a tragic family pattern. Her father, Elvis Presley, and ex-husband Michael Jackson both died from drug-related complications. Presley herself had experimented with drugs in her teenage years.

Keough faced the challenging task of completing the memoir by listening to her mother’s recorded memories. She grappled with difficult chapters, including her mother’s descent into addiction, Lisa Marie’s death, and the 2020 suicide of Keough’s brother Benjamin following his own addiction battle.

Reflecting on the book’s content, Keough noted the varied facets of her mother’s personality shining through – from fiery anger to deep empathy. She hopes readers will connect with the human experiences of love, loss, and family struggles depicted in the memoir.

“From Here to the Great Unknown” is now available for preorder at all major book retailers.
