Nicole Kidman wants Martin Scorsese to make a movie about women. The star shared her thoughts in a chat with Vanity Fair on November 13, 2023.

Scorsese’s films often focus on men. His big hits like “The Irishman,” “The Departed,” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” mainly tell stories about guys. But he’s had some great roles for women too. Sharon Stone shone in “Casino,” Margot Robbie made waves in “Wolf of Wall Street,” and Lily Gladstone grabbed attention in “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

Kidman’s been a big name since the mid-1990s. She made her mark with movies like “To Die For” in 1995 and “The Portrait of a Lady” in 1996. But she hasn’t had the chance to work with Scorsese yet.

Scorsese did make “The Aviator” in 2004, which had some big roles for women. Cate Blanchett won an Oscar for playing Katharine Hepburn, and Kate Beckinsale played Ava Gardner. But that’s been the only Scorsese film with lots of big female roles during Kidman’s time in the spotlight.

Way back, Scorsese directed “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore,” which was all about a woman’s story. But since then, he hasn’t written many parts that would fit Kidman.

In the interview, Kidman said:

“I’ve always said I want to work with [Martin] Scorsese, if he does a film with women.”

Kidman’s words show she’s keen to team up with top directors on projects that put women front and center. They also remind us that even today, we’re still talking about how women are shown in films by big-name directors.
