Lifetime has decided to delay the airing of the “Where Is Wendy Williams?” documentary. This move comes amid a lawsuit, with court proceedings taking place on Friday. Despite this, Lifetime had initially confirmed that the documentary was set to air as planned this weekend, according to PEOPLE.
Wendy Williams, the focus of the documentary, is a 59-year-old public figure battling progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), as announced by her guardian.
Since a legal guardianship was established, her contact with her family has been limited. She is currently in an undisclosed facility to address cognitive concerns, under strict rules that only allow Williams to initiate contact first from a blocked phone number.
Williams played a significant role in the creation of the documentary, serving as its executive producer. The film includes an emotional moment where she reunites with Blac Chyna, removing her wig and tearing up. This indicates Williams’s direct involvement and personal investment in how her story is portrayed.
The guardian took legal action on Thursday night, seemingly in an attempt to halt the documentary’s release. Despite these efforts, legal documents related to this action are sealed. However, it was revealed that initial production of “Where Is Wendy Williams?” received sign-off from the guardian.
Alex Finnie, Wendy Williams’ niece, shared insights into Wendy’s current state and motivations for participating in the documentary. On Good Morning America on Thursday, she quoted Williams saying “now is the perfect time because I want to take ownership of my story.” Finnie also observed significant improvements in Williams’s clarity and focus on family and reality regarding her physical and mental condition during an interview with PEOPLE.
Despite all these developments and anticipations around the documentary’s release on Lifetime this weekend at 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, recent legal challenges have prompted a postponement.
